Bringing the Valley to StartupFest

by on July 20, 2012

Last week I participated in the Montreal International Startup Festival. Over a thousand passionate entrepreneurs showed up in the beautiful old port of Montreal for two and a half days of captivating presentations, product demos and packed networking events. Quebec’s early stage tech scene is bigger, better and more alive than ever before.

This year, iNovia Capital decided to do something different to help the attending early stage entrepreneurs. Knowing that many Entrepreneurs look forward to being connected to Valley based investors and mentors and to give them the Pitch, we decided to bring the Valley to the Startup Festival. To do this, we teamed up with the C100 and Google to bring investors from Valley to the Startup Festival live via Google Hangout on a 52” TV and a super high-speed Internet connection. Tagged the “Valley Tent”, over a hundred entrepreneurs lined up to pitch some of the top investors and entrepreneurs in the Valley such as Anthony Lee (General Partner, Altos Ventures), Rahim Fazal (CEO Involver just acquired by Oracle), Lars Leckie (Managing Director, Hummer winblad).

Entrepreneurs walked away with valuable feedback, contacts and even follow up meetings
in the Valley. What a great way to build relationships! iNovia received great feedback and intend to make next year’s bridge to the Valley bigger and stronger.

A special thank you to everyone that came to the International Startup Festival and the Valley Tent but most of all thank you to Phil Telio and his team to bringing all this together. You guys rock !
